Review: Wear Colour Women’s Ida Snow Jacket

The time had come – my well-worn Bonfire snowboarding jacket was starting to show its age (it had lasted the best part of eight winters) and so I needed to find myself a new one! I hate buying new clothes, especially expensive new clothes, so after much searching online, I was set on the Wear Colour Women’s Ida jacket.

Wear Colour are relatively new kids on the block, founded in 2010 and from Sweeden, they have a sustainable message and generally seem to be one of the good guys. Ski Sunday’s Ed Leigh wears a lot of their stuff and raves about them.

The Women’s Ida jacket comes in a range of colours – some bright, along-side some more muted colours so you can pick your favourite. The styling is very simple, with a relaxed fit, it is perfect for wearing both on and off the piste. It retails at a very competitive £160, but shop around as I got mine for £90 from Surfdome including free next day delivery!

So what do I think, I’ve worn the jacket for approx 6 days on the snow in a mixture of cold, windy, snowy conditions and spring sunshine. The jacket is very light-weight and despite my Mum’s concerns that it wouldn’t be ‘warm enough’ it so far totally has been! The zip comes up to about nose height, keeping you snug and the jacket is a good length, again keeping out the worst of the weather. There are plenty of pockets for stashing gear, including a ski pass pocket in one of the arms. The ventilation panels are big enough to make a difference and help keep you cool on warmer days. The quality of the jacket seems really good and hopefully will prove to be long lasting. The only negative, so far, is that the Lycra cuffs on the sleeves don’t have thumb holes, making putting your gloves on a bit more of a faff.
